“Slow Fashion week will feature a mini-exhibition of 15 prints from the compelling series What we wear by photographer Pieter van den Boogert. He followed the progress of our clothing from textile factories in Bangladesh, via the fashion industry in the Netherlands, and on to second-hand clothes markets in Ghana”. The exhibition is open on weekdays from 11.00 to 16.00 hrs. Between 4 and 8 November and during Slow Fashion. Admission is free.

An iconic street symbol that can be found in almost every wardrobe: the blue jeans. Worn for more than 150 years, the garment holds an even more longstanding tradition. The exhibition is divided into a number of themes showing the experimental and creative side of jeans: from their origin as work wear in the 17th century, to high fashion in the 20th century, to modern-day jeans. The exhibition also looks at the DNA of jeans: the materials, buttons, labels and their typical indigo blue colour. The highly polluting production process and current innovative sustainable alternatives. A photograph from ‘What We Wear’ will be part of this exhibition.

The Best Dutch Book Designs 2011 selection will be on show at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The exhibition will start at October 17 and will be running until November 25. The Best Dutch Book Designs selection of 2011 consists of thirty books, all released last year. The photobook: “What We Wear” is one of them. This selection was put together by a jury whose members are Jan de Boer (Studio Jan de Boer, Amsterdam), Frederike Huygen (design historian, Amsterdam), Fokko Tamminga (printers ANDO, The Hague) and Astrid Vorstermans (Valiz, books and cultural projects, Amsterdam). In all they judged 338 submitted books.
